Happy New Year 2013, and welcome to the CFEngine Developer Blog! On posts tagged with Development, the guys and gals working on the CFEngine code will share their thoughts about current challenges, ongoing improvements and completed features. The nature of this information will by definition be technical and at times more interesting for those with a software development background than for system engineers. This will be news from the “bleeding edge” rather than announcements of production-ready features - more on that, and how we are changing our release operations in 2013, in a separate post!
This is going to be both about CFEngine Community and CFEngine Enterprise. The Community edition is already developed in public in our github repository, and we are very happy to see an increasing number of pull-requests submitted from CFEngine users and coders in the community! The blog posts here will help connect the changes in the code to the general direction that we are taking with the development of CFEngine.
The Enterprise-specific functionality in CFEngine is not developed under an Open Source model, and I hope that our customers and users of the Free25 edition will find the information we share here helpful to understand what we are working on - and why! - to plan ahead and to share their thoughts.
So, I’m looking forward to a continuous stream of information and good discussions, and I’d like to invite you all to participate in the design of the future of CFEngine. My name is Volker Hilsheimer, and I’m responsible for the development activities in CFEngine. Feel free to contact me on twitter via @vhilsheimer if you want to get in touch with me directly!
